With Valentine’s Day out of the way, it’s time to celebrate the four-legged loves of our lives. In honor of Love Your Pet Day, celebrated every year on February 20th, here are our favorite ways to plan a special day with your pet.

  1. Go for a Scenic Walk. Your pet will love going outside for some one-on-one time with you on Love Your Pet Day. Wake up early and take in the sunrise together, or go for an afternoon walk just before sunset to watch the clouds turn pink and purple. Even if it’s grey and dull this time of year where you live, you’ll cherish the simple joy of spending time with that very special dog or cat in your life. You can take your dog out with a leash, harness, and a sweater if it’s chilly. For cats, a leash walk or ride in a backpack carrier are safe ways to enjoy the fresh air.

  2. Have A Spa Day. Share self-care with your pet by having a mini spa day at home. If your pet doesn’t mind baths, why not pamper them with the works using their favorite shampoo, finishing off with a leave-in conditioner to leave their fur soft and silky? Or, if your pet hates baths, pamper them with a refreshing, waterless shampoo, bath wipe, or body spray. If the winter has left their paws dry and cracked, give them a pawdicure with TropiClean Paw Pad Lotion. Take your time pampering your pet from nose to tail, brushing their teeth with yummy pet toothpaste, and clipping or filing their nails. Finish off by brushing your pet with a slicker brush to massage their skin and coat and distribute their skin’s natural oils, leaving them soft and shiny and feeling their best.

  3. Make Artwork Together. Many of us enjoy paint-and-sip style outings with our favorite humans, but have you ever tried making artwork with your four-legged muse? It’s surprisingly easy to make special keepsakes with your pet. No messy paints needed! Pearhead Ink Pawprint kits come with everything you need to capture your pet’s one-of-a-kind pawprint, including a clean-touch ink pad and keepsake display frame.

  4. Share A Barkcuterie Board.
A BARKcuterie board, or charcuterie board, is a delicious, creative way to celebrate Love Your Pet Day. You can use a variety of pet-friendly ingredients like fruits, veggies, and cheeses to create a snackable spread that’s safe to share. Or, create separate mini snack boards topped off with Valentine’s Day-themed treats for your pet to enjoy.

  5. Protect Their Heart.
Heartworm disease, transmitted by mosquitoes, is a threat to your sweetheart’s heart health year-round, even if you live in a temperate climate with cold winters. Protect your pet every month with heartworm preventative. Need to stock up? Schedule your pet’s annual heartworm test with your veterinarian, then save on heartworm prevention with Autoship from PetMeds.
