About Apoquel (oclacitinib) - Tablets for Dogs

What is Apoquel for Dogs?

Apoquel tablets are used to treat and control itching and inflammation in dogs resulting from a variety of causes, including flea allergy, food allergy, contact allergy and atopic dermatitis. Apoquel delivers onset of relief within 4 hours. It effectively controls itching and dermatitis in dogs within 24 hours. Apoquel requires a prescription from your veterinarian, and is sold per tablet.

Suitable for:

dogs over 12 months in age and weighing more than 6.6 lbs.

Benefits:

  • Provides rapid relief within 4 hours
  • Effectively controls itching within 24 hours
  • Safe for short term and long term usage
  • Can be used along with many other common medications, including parasiticides, antibiotics and vaccines
  • Uniquely targeted to stop the itch with minimal negative impact on immune response or function
  • Control of pruritus associated with allergic dermatitis and control of atopic dermatitis
  • Sold per tablet

How does Apoquel for Dogs work?

Apoquel for Dogs is a selective janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor, which targets pruritogenic (itch creating) cytokines. It effectively controls itching due to food allergies, flea allergies, contact dermatitis, and atopic dermatitis. Apoquel for Dogs works to control pruritus for fast-acting relief, and provides significant short-term and long-term reduction of itching and inflammation.

Cautions:

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: Do not use Apoquel for Dogs in dogs less than 12 months of age or those with serious infections. Apoquel for Dogs may increase the chances of developing serious infections, and may cause existing parasitic skin infestations or pre-existing cancers to get worse. Consider the risks and benefits of treatment in dogs with a history of recurrence of these conditions.  New neoplastic conditions (benign and malignant) were observed in clinical studies and post-approval.  Apoquel for Dogs has not been tested in dogs receiving some medications including some commonly used to treat skin conditions such as corticosteroids and cyclosporines. Do not use in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs. Most common side effects are vomiting and diarrhea. Apoquel for Dogs has been used safely with many common medications including parasiticides, antibiotics and vaccines.
